Sometimes you have to compromise. I don’t have jelly. I just have peanut butter and Strawberries. It is late, I am not going to be able to go out and get something for the kids to eat. This is what we have. I have to make the best of it. Even if they demanded regular jelly, I would still give them the strawberries. They are good kids. However, making special arrangements for every whim they have is not what I want to do.
I do want to take care of my kids. To me it does not mean doing everything they want when they want it. I do love them. Me giving them everything they want is the not the best strategy. They will think that everyone owes them or they can demand what they want from anyone and get it.
Also, I want to encourage them to try new things and to think about other solutions. We may not have jelly. Do they really need jelly with the peanut butter? I want them to think that there may be other ways to do the same thing. They may want to think about other ways of doing what they want.
