I am looking towards the future. I also want to enjoy this moment right now. My kids are having fun. They are happy. They are full of life. They have hopes and dreams. They have so much energy. I have want to be the best parent I can be.
I am imagining a life in which they are totally happy in the future, most of the time. I know they will have set backs and painful situations. So my hope is that they will have a wonderful life. I know that they may not always have happy times. My hope is that they will have more good times than bad times.
What can I do as a parent to ensure that they will have more good times than bad times. First, I would teach them that yes, they will have disappointments and they will have trials. They learn to deal with minor set backs now, so that really big stuff won’t destroy them. Yes, I want them to fail and know the pain. However, I want them to learn the lesson in the failure. Hopefully, they will not make similar mistakes in the future. When my son forgets to do his homework, I don’t rush to get it to him at school. I tell the teacher, that he should feel the embarrassment of not having this assignment. In the future he may not forget his assignments and realize that he is responsible for his actions.
