Whatever you do, do it with class. There is a story about a man who worked for another man. He had to have surgery. He thought his employer would cover the cost of the surgery. It was not covered. He spoke to his boss. The boss said it would be covered, and the man would never get another bill. He did not get a bill. Several years later, the boss died. He told the wife of his boss, what he had done. The wife told him that the boss paid the bill. He had the money. He did what was right, and never told anybody.
I want to be like that boss. People make mistakes. My kids make mistakes. You don’t have to rub their noses in it. You don’t have to make them feel less than perfect. You don’t have to humiliate someone when they are down. Even if you don’t like someone, you don’t have to make them suffer.
I want to teach my kids to be classy. How do I do that? I want to be the best example. Her is how I can start: If I am at the grocery store and the cashier makes a mistake. I don’t have to argue with her. I don’t have to say, “I am going to tell your boss.” I can ask them to correct it. I can be polite and kind. I can state in such a way that I take responsibility for the error. It is not on them. Be classy.
