Sew Sew Sew

I have a memory of my Grandmother teaching me to sew. She was teaching me to make a quilt. The instructions were laid out. There was a step by step process. She was the best teacher. She never got angry. She would scold me in a fun way. When I made a mistake she would tell me to get out the seem ripper. “Rip, rip, rip,” was her response. Then, “Sew, sew, sew.'” Her teaching was simple. If you make a mistake, fix it, then re do it. I do miss her. We ended up with a beautiful quilt.

It taught me several lessons. First the above. Then to have patience. Also, a lot about listening to someone with more experience. Last, how to work with other people. My Grandmother was never cross with anyone. She was very patient. You never heard her say a bad work about anyone.

What wonderful memories I have. I want to create wonderful memories with my kids. Today I will teach them how to use my Grandmother’s sewing machine, to make pillows. Hopefully, they will learn the lesson. Rip, rip, rip, and then Sew, sew, sew – repeat as necessary.
